_There is no regulation for either wholefoods or superfoods, however the general consensus with wholefood is that they are foods that are as close to the natural state as possible with nothing added, or nothing taken away. E.g. milk straight from a cow, versus the processed, homogenised, pasteurised milk sold in cartons today.
Superfoods are considered to be super-nutritious, not just with one or a few nutrients but very many. There are many varied opinions about superfoods from dubious websites touting ice-cream and bacon as superfoods, through to supreme superfoods like maca, noni, mangosteen and blue-green algae.
Click herI love using such superfoods over synthetic vitamin and mineral supplements, however for everyday real life foods, my top 10 is the following: Quinoa, Chia, Sea Vegetables, Coconut Oil, Lemons, Beetroot, Lentils, Avocado, Berries & Leafy Greens. All of these foods fit my criteria. They are delicious, they are wholefoods, they are superfoods, they can be used on a daily or weekly basis, and they are easy to buy or grow.
I appreciate that there are concerns with eliminating certain food groups from the diet. Be it me, you, a family member or friend, these concerns will come up. The classic concerns will be calcium, protein, Vit B12 and Iron. However what is not so well known is that these nutritional concerns are just as prevalent in people eating meat and dairy as those who don't. Ultimately it comes down to how well you are absorbing nutrients and how nutritious your diet is overall. There are also concerns with everyone's diet when it come to the consumption of good fats like omega 3 fats, magnesium, iodine, zinc, B Vitamins and fibre.
Omega 3 fats are essential for our joints, brains and heart, and we need an alternative to eating at lest 6 fillets of fish every day to get enough! Magnesium and iodine are extremely deficient in Australian soils and hence our plants. Magnesium, iodine, zinc and B vitamins are depleted by stress and we live in a stressful world. Without them our physical, mental and hormonal health suffers. Fibre we need for removal of bad cholesterol and to keep our bowels moving yet we are a society of cholesterol lowering drugs and constipation!!
