![]() _ 55% coconut water 45% greens Blood is made up plasma and blood cells. Plasma comprises 55% of blood fluid and is mostly water (90% by volume) and contains dissolved proteins, glucose, mineral ions, hormones, carbon dioxide, platelets and blood cells themselves. Blood cells are mainly red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Red blood cells are the most abundant and they contain haemoglobin, an iron-containing protein. The plant version of haemoglobin is chlorophyll which is a green pigment based around a magnesium ion as opposed to iron (haem). Both haemoglobin and chlorophyll exist to obtain energy. Coconut water is a natural liquid closest in structure to blood plasma and has been used in the war instead of plasma when supplies were low!! So combine 55% coconut water and 45% greens (by volume) and you have a BLOODy great smoothie!

![]() _I love a simple green smoothie. I love to taste the fruit I use, and this one does not get any simpler as it only has 2 ingredients!!! I bought a ripe rock melon from my local farmers market that was picked only yesterday, does it get any better than that? Half a large rockemelon (cantaloupe) or around 3 cups worth (peel, de-seed and roughly chop the melon) 2 big handfuls of spinach (or other green) Blend on high speed for about a minute and serve for two Rockmelon is a refreshing summer melon that is a good source of vitamin A and C, both of which are important for immunity and both antioxidant vitamins. Rockmelon is also low GI and contains fibre, so its good for blood sugar and weight control. |
